File Extensions
- .PSD is the default save for adobe photoshop. It makes it so you can come back and edit the image by also saving your layers, masks, and effects.
- .PSB is like .PSD except it makes it is a larger file. This is used for bigger images.
- .BMP is a files saved as a bitmap.
- .GIF is a file that saves your image like an animation. It will do a repeated cycle of different images put together.
- .DCM is a file thats saves an image like a medical scan or an ultrasound.
- .EPS is a way to save it so you can edit in adobe illustrator.
- .IFF is used to share files across computer platforms.
- .JPG is the standard way of saving. It's like a .PSD but interchangeable.
- .JPF saves it as a file, so that it has better quality when opening in certain applications.
- .JPS is a .JPG that creates a 3D image out of a 2D image, by creating an image for the left and right eye.
- .MPO is a .JPG from a digital camera
- .PCX or PiCture Exchange is used for the PC paint application, and was one of the first standards of images.
- .PDF has all the elements of a printed image but is an electronic image, so you can print, view, edit, and share it.
- .RAW is an image seen on a camera and this can be edited to your liking instead of being just a .JPG that can not be changed.
- .PXR stores your image in grayscale.
- .PNG makes it have a transparent background.
- .PBM is simple and general, so it can be used in many other applications.
- .SCT is a script used to make an object model.
- .TGA saves in RGB colors and 8 bit alpha channels.
- .TIF saves in high quality.
